The Office of the City Architect of Ústí nad Labem invites the public to a meeting on the draft of the city’s new development strategy. The event will take place on Tuesday, May 20, at 5:00 p.m. at the Ústí nad Labem Regional Library.

The City of Ústí nad Labem has presented a draft of a new urban transformation policy and invites citizens to a public meeting where the document will be presented in greater detail. The goal is to discuss the future of Ústí together—specifically, how to address long-term decline, population loss, the exodus of young people, and the stagnation of public spaces.

The new strategy is based on an analysis prepared by AQE Advisors. The document proposes specific steps to help the city revitalize—such as the construction of municipal housing, the creation of a special economic zone, or the development of a new experimental district.

“We know that anything can be written on paper and that this isn’t the first plan intended to change Ústí. We understand the skepticism, but at the same time, nothing will change without a long-term strategy,” says Barbora Havrlová, head of the city architect’s office. A new zoning plan is being prepared, a high-speed rail line is being planned, working groups are being formed, and a concrete action plan is set to be presented this fall.

Expert partners—the Ústí Region Innovation Center (ICUK) and J. E. Purkyně University—are involved in developing the strategy. The city considers this connection with the professional community and institutions to be key.
